In this month's issue:
Woodcarving 129 sees the long-awaited winners of International Woodcarver of The Year announced, plus the runners up and winners of the competition’s individual categories. We announce these lucky few over 16-pages, including comments from our judges. Other features include Chris Conoley’s story of his father Patrick – a stone carver who despite his prodigious talents, remained almost unheard of throughout his lifetime. We also have Michael Painter’s ‘Diary of a Professional Woodcarver’ and Ben Hawthorne’s tale from the workshop focuses on helping his grandson pursue an interest in carving.
Projects this issue include a cyclist and bike, a reclining abstract form and Mike Wood is carving a beautiful greenshank. Chris Pye creates a frog on a bowl carving and Peter Clothier carves a wonderful hobbyhorse, keeping to the folk-art theme of his project in last issue. This issue also sees us kick off our first of four maquette articles, this time focusing on drawings, models and moulds.
On test this month are Mastercarver’s Flex-shaft set, Axminster’s WD16F pillar drill and of course, a variety of tools and equipment in the ‘Carver’s Toolbag’.
